Haiku - July 3, 2023 It’s an improvement? Air quality moderate But I can’t see it

Old Friends

Old Friends Old friends make each other laugh. Not that we need to be humored or anything. Well, maybe a little. It’s just that we know each other so well, and can try, but can never really put one over on the other one. And - as if our shortcomings are not right out front for the eye to see anyway - we are honest, for the most part, about them., And can even exaggerate them a bit for their humor. That’s, I guess, why we’ve remained friends for so long: We’re good at our shortcomings. You know what the old guy in the bar said,  “We’re so soon old, and yet so late shmart.” Not smart, except for the body part that you sit down on. That part isn’t just smart, it’s wise.

Haiku - July 2, 2023 Azure sky today Respite from the wildfire smoke Brown sky turned to blue

Burnt Skyscape

Burnt Skyscape Azure marbled in wisps and whorls of white A shade of sky we can no longer take for granted As today was mere respite from days of the choking smoke of vast northern wildfire Evidence to us in our very breath of the arrival of climate change May we tame - by change in our behavior - its disastrous effects For our health and that of our only home in the universe And may the burnt skyscape be replaced permanently by the blue of the heavens

Haiku - June 30, 2023

Haiku - June 30, 2023 It’s sixty-two out Moderate air quality Best day yet this week

A Beautiful Day Inside

A Beautiful Day Inside It is a beautiful sunny day. But we can’t go outside. The air is unhealthy. You can see it hovering. It’s not just the industrial and vehicular pollution. Now, in addition, it’s the smoke from Canadian wildfires. Wildfires caused by drought,  a result of climate change,  driven by industrial and vehicular pollution. We need to break this vicious cycle. We need to stop polluting before it stops us, stops us cold.
