Redwood
Redwood
Sequoia sempervirens (ever living).
Lives only on the northern California coast.
Lives long there: some 2,000 years old and still growing.
Lofty forests kept moist by ocean mists.
Uplifting to the spirits, and humbling to one’s fragile frame,
Compared to the world’s tallest trees.
A privilege to be among them for a day and a night,
Camped on the Smith River under their soaring limbs.
