Navajo National Monument

 Navajo National Monument

Deep canyon hike.

Sheer rock walls.

Juniper and pinyon,

Aspen and douglas fir.

Recessed in the far wall,

A huge rounded alcove,

Like a bandshell in solid rock.

A little village inside,

Of sandstone brick.

“900 years old,” said the Navajo guide,

“Our ancestors.”
