What are they waiting for?

There are so many out there.

So many alone and lonely.

Wanting to connect.

Afraid to.

Afraid they will be rejected.

Afraid they will be taken advantage of.

Made a fool of.

Afraid to let their guard down.

To be vulnerable.

Afraid their intentions will be misread.

Afraid to make the first move.

To connect.


Wait a minute.

Why am I putting it on “them”?

I am one of them.

What am I waiting for?

If you happen to have a guy,

Friendly, vulnerable, starting a conversation with you,

That’s me, or somebody like me.

Don’t let your guard down

Right away,

Because you never know…

But gradually, carefully, mindfully, give us a chance.

We’re opening up.

Getting good at being a holy fool.

Just trying to connect.

It’s really, you know, what we’re here for.

A family caroling outside Grandma’s door. A lover serenading the love of his life. A mother’s lullaby to her sleepy baby. Baptists, Catholics, Buddhists, Muslims, Blues Men, Song Writers, School Kids, Carolers, Lovers, Moms. Which ones does God hear? If you hear them, doesn’t God?

  Idioms, Literally If you think these are corny, think again. Eating them, and the paper they’re on, even with butter and salt, just wouldn’t be good. You say you ran into a friend today. Isn’t it safer just to walk up to him? When you burst out laughing, did you have to go to the emergency room? You must look funny down on your hands and knees beating around a bush. When you make a change across the board, better see it before you saw it. When someone says “age before beauty,” what does an ageing beauty do? There’s a lot of name-calling on April 1st.
